Group Rations

In 1998 The Wornick Company became a supplier of the Unitized Group Ration-A (UGR-A) and in 2000 a supplier for Tray-Pack components for the Unitized Group Ration-Heat & Serve (UGR-H&S) military group feeding programs.  A group ration consists of a variety of food components packed into individual meal modules; these modules make up a set of different menus, each menu designed to feed up to 50 persons and provide about 1,450 calories per meal.  The menus consist of perishable and non-perishable components such as frozen or shelf stable meat protein items, fruits and vegetables, starches (e.g. rice, mashed potatoes, oatmeal), sweetened flavored drink mixes, condiments (e.g. ketchup, mustard, salt, pepper, etc.), cups, compartment serving trays, napkins, utensils, and even trash bags).  Meal preparation is simple, but requires use of special field kitchen equipment.

The Tray-Pack is a thermally processed ready to heat and serve shelf stable food component used in the UGR-H&S group feeding ration. It is packaged in a hermetically sealed, half-size steam table container. The food seal-packaged in the container (tray) can be heated in a steam oven or by simply submerging the tray in boiling water for a few minutes. The container (tray) provides great functionality as it can also be used as a serving tray.
