(Unitized Group Ration - Heat & Serve)
The Unitized Group Ration-Heat & Serve is designed as a self-contained menu
with all the components necessary to prepare and serve a hot, cooked meal to a
group of 50 persons in the field. UGR-H&S includes shelf stable food components
only. The objective of the UGR-H&S is to decrease inventory-carrying costs and
simplify the ordering, distribution, and logistical process, as well as provide
the soldiers with top-quality, easy to prepare meals.

One of the primary components in this ration is the range of Tray-pack
shelf-stable food items. The Tray Pack is the primary shelf stable food item in
the UGR-H&S ration. The entree or side dish packaged in Tray-Pack is
pre-prepared allowing a critical reduction in food preparation time. The
product can be boiled in water or heated in an oven. Designed to be served by
food service personnel, these tray pack meals fit perfectly into half steam
serving tables. The Tray-Pack Meal is produced by The Wornick Company for the
UGR-H&S program and other group feeding programs currently in development by
Natick.
